St. Joseph & St. Severin Churches install VSA2050

RCF VSA 2050 Installations in the churches St. Joseph, Siegburg, and St. Severin, Cologne
In November 2010 the over 30 years old PA system in the Catholic Church St. Joseph in Siegburg was completely renewed. After a parallel comparison of two steerable speaker systems for a few weeks, even during the church service, the congregation decided on the very similar sounding but more cost effective RCF solution.
For the first time in Germany the main PA system consists of two DSP controlled VSA 2050 vertical steerable arrays, which were placed on the left and right side of the altar to give a very clear and accurate sound of the speeches. For turning the columns slightly to the audience, the optional mounting brackets were used. The same system is also installed in the well-known church St. Severin in Cologne.
For that kind of wide-open church rooms like the 20 x 25m in St. Joseph, without any columns and flanking aisles, DSP controlled active speaker systems like VSA 2050 can be used in optimal ways. Because of the exact direction and alignment you can reach a very good speech transmission in the whole church, especially in the last rows.
Alongside the VSA-RC infrared remote control the new PC control software was used to set up the beam steering of the systems and to minimize the interference and the reflections from the back wall of the church. If needed, you can use up to seven full parametric filters to optimize the adjustment to the room acoustics.
For the special red-brown paintwork of the aluminium housings of the column speakers in front of the brick wall, the small systems with a wide of only 12,5cm and a depth of 10cm attract optically no attention and fit perfect into the surrounding area. To minimize the wiring works, the new systems are working with the old 100V cable network. Therefore the output signal from the new digital 100V mixing amplifier is used and a small transformer was mounted invisibly on the back of the DSP column to transform the 100V signal to a normal line signal.
Josef Schlechtriemen - responsible contact person of the congregation in Siegburg says: All members of the congregation confirm, that there is a very clearly audible improvement of the sound and everyone is very pleased with the investment in the new PA system.
